Learn how you can be a Happy Hostess!
>Four Weeks Before
Decide what kind of party you'd like to have - a fun, informal gathering or a candelit dinner.
Prepare your guest list.
Extend invitations. Don't forget an RSVP date and phone number.
Decide if you will cater the meal or prepare the food yourself.
Do you need your caterer to set up and serve, or just drop off the food?

Create your final menu and shopping list.
Make note of any special seating and serving pieces that you may need.
>Two Weeks Before
Purchase beverages and non-perishables.
Select music you would like to play.
>Three - Five Days Before
Clean and press table coverings.
Make a checklist of food you will be serving to be followed on the day of the event.
>Three Days Before
Rearrange any furniture to allow traffic flow.
Make the remaining recipes and complete other recipes that you have previously stored.
Arrange any decorations, and set your table.
Silverware should be arranged in the order it will be used from the outside in.
Dessert utensils may be placed horizontally over the plate or served with dessert.
Purchase ice, flowers, and other perishables.
>The Day Of
Post your food list in a visible but out-of-the way place for a quick reference.
>Two Hours Before
Get dressed!!!
Take a breather.
>One Hour Before
Begin putting out hors d'oeuvres.
Prepare coffee and tea service.
Start music. Keep it low, so it doesn't interfere with dinner conversation.
>When Guests Arrive
Offer drinks immediately and point them toward the food.
Enjoy!
Ask guests for input regarding any special dietary requirements to help build your menu.
Consider the weather and time of year. Decide where coats and umbrellas will go when guests arrive.
A quick stroll through the supermarket will give you an idea of the fresh produce in season.
Mix and match stemware and china to add interest to your table.
Serve a "signature" drink to complement the flair of the meal.
Don't forget to stock up on mixers like tonic, club soda, juices, etc.
Mixed cds or tapes of various artists and styles will set the mood of your party.
Think about table decorations. A centerpiece of lightly scented flowers or fruits adds an aromatic touch. Float fresh flowers in a large bowl filled with water. Add floating candles.
Avoid large centerpieces that may obstruct guests' view.
Select your outfit. Make sure it is cleaned and pressed and ready to go.
Don't forget that a well-stocked bar includes lemons, limes, stirrers.
Simmer a pot of water with cinnamon, rosemary, basil or fresh fruit on the stove to make your home smell warm and inviting.
Don't forget to clean out your medicine cabinet. Research shows that many party guests will take a peek!
